Here's more of the packing conversation from the China Adoption Forums, continued from yesterday:

5. For the 2 weeks, how many outfits or types of clothes do you think would be a good amount (trying not to overpack, but also want enough clothes for convenience)

I'm one of those people who did a little bit of laundry in the hotel room, and sent clothes out to the laundry once. So really, as little as possible. This does depend on where you're going when -- Beijing seems to have the same climate as Boston, Harbin the same as Anchorage, Guangzhou the same as Miami, and Chongqing something like San Francisco (winter) and L.A. (summer).

6. What necessities would you recommend for the baby?

Stacking cups.

Unlike many of your interlocutors, I'm an advocate for using Chinese bottles while in China. At least buy some Chinese nipples. It's what the little creatures are used to, and they're not identical to the ones here -- larger holes.

Chinese diapers are a little thinner and rougher than American ones, and Pampers or Huggies condense *really well* with those miraculous vacuum bags where you roll the air out of your clothes to make them super-compact. Those things rule. Anyway, bring diapers if you like.

7. I've read from blogs that Walmart seems to be pretty easily accessible, but what amount of clothes and things do you think that I should make sure that I have for the baby in case I can't get to Walmart the first few days?

You should be able to easily get to some kind of clothing store within hours of reaching your destination. It might not be a Walmart, but it might be even nicer.

You really have little way of knowing how large the child will be when you get there, and guessing sizes might just leave you with a naked baby. They grow rapidly in those months between referral and the handover.

8. What sizes of clothes would you recommend if she will be about 14 months old?

Depends entirely on the child. Some like soft, some like baggy, some like clingy, some like frills, some like onesies, some just hate clothes.

But definitely ones that don't stain easily....

9. What about the airport restrictions? I think that they still have the restrictions on liquids. Any recommendations on what to bring and how to store them?

I hate that liquids rule. I hear they've relaxed it, though. I also hate the shoes thing.

I swear, I'm going to start flying in a bathrobe one of these days.

And if you're really into packing list, here's one I posted before our last trip.
