You like the internet, right? (Otherwise, how did you get here??)

Here are three sites I've found to be useful:

  • Trendy, trendy Facebook has quite a few groups for people who were adopted or members of the "adoption triad" (no, not that kind of triad, but a triangle made from kid/birthparents/adoptive parents). The best of them seems to be Adoption - what goes on deep inside of you, which is geared toward kids who've been adopted, Adoption Supporter, which isn't terribly critical of the issues surrounding adoption but is positively HUGE (which matters in these networking sites), the China Adoption group, which seems to be getting a good start, and the simply named, birthfamily reunion-oriented "Adoption" group. This site is building up toward becoming a great social networking tool for adopted kids and grown-ups involved in this family-building thing to get to know each other and hear each other's stories. Networking is all the rage across the internet right now, and until you give it a shot, it can be difficult to understand why. It could be a very valuable thing in a couple years. Until then, there's always the adoption.com forums....

  • Stinky Tuscadero's Pink Tub Panorama is a great resource for parents in general. Stinky is one of us, but the site isn't really about adoption or China or cross-culturalism or anything like that. It's about books. Children's books. They're reviewed by Ms Tuscadero, but also evaluated by a wide swath of the internet-reading public, so you really know which ones are totally cool, which ones are kinda meh, which ones are good for a laugh and which ones are good for Answering the Big Questions. Read Stinky. Your children will thank you.

  • It's funny how much information you can get through a narrow focus, but Shanghai Scrap is a blog specializing in Chinese politics, religion, pop culture, media and modernization - all viewed through the lens of e-scrap, the (usually toxic) electronic waste that the West quite often gets rid of by selling to China. You'd think it'd just be a bunch of garbage, but take a look: The subject leads to discussions of China's environment, how the state-run media treats political figures and what the Pope says about Chinese bishops. This is as good an article to start with as any about the main problem - e-scrap - but poke around just a little and you'll find yourself learning all kinds of things about how China works. I promise.
