In case you were wondering what the people in charge are saying about the tighter restrictions, it's for the good of the kids!

Vice Minister of Civil Affairs Li Liguo said the rules were aimed at standardizing protection for orphans and were not expected to impact the number of adoptions.

"Adoption of orphaned children abroad and at home is going on normally," he said.

Very little more at that link, as well as over here (scroll down a little bit).

Is it bad of me not to completely trust the Chinese government? (or any government for that matter...)

I definitely don't trust the Chinese government and I'm not adopting from China... But when I look at their new rules, I agree with a lot of them. Like the weight rules. With America being so grossly overweight due to behaviour more than anything else, it makes sense to me to choose a family that is not obviously full of over-eaters, rather than an equally competent family where everyone is obese.
