Brief question about Russian adoptions

OK, so China just tightened its restrictions on would-be adoptive parents, many of whom are now looking elsewhere, including that vast nation along China's northern border.

So...

What's with the shutdown of adoptions from Russia? Strange coincidence? Something unexpected to do with the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption? Putin finally declaring himself dictator and closing the borders?

What? What? Somebody tell me something....

Russia has not shut down adoptions. As I have explained at length on the Russian Adoption blog, the accreditations of adoption agencies--American and otherwise--operating in Russia have expired. The Russian government did not suspend them, they expired. I urge you, and all your readers, to take a look at the Russian Adoption blog for a full account of what is going on. And as you will be able to see on the Russian Adoption forum, Pinkie's "Travelers And Waiters" list includes families who are traveling now to start and complete adoptions. Russia has not shut down adoptions.

Ask for an answer, and an answer appears.

Isn't that efficient....
