Today's multicultural England: not more enlightened than America.

I'm just waiting for this kind of thing to happen to me & my kids. I regard it as a kind of inevitability.

Police have apologised to a white dad who was quizzed by officers after taking his two mixed-race daughters out for a pizza.

Paul Wrightson was questioned by the officers because they thought a white man with two Asian girls was suspicious.

I took the girls to Pizza Hut for a treat and I had just finished my pizza when I noticed the officers come in.

"I joked with the girls that they were probably coming in for their tea. The two officers came over and asked me to come outside.

"One officer stayed in the restaurant with the girls and the other explained that a member of the public had seen a white man with two Asian girls acting suspiciously," he said. The officer asked Paul if he could prove he was their father and he explained that he didn't have any sort of documentation because he had met his girls after work to get some dinner.

In the meantime a female PCSO asked Asha and Sonia who Mr Wrightson was and they also explained that he was their dad.

Asha also told the officer that she was embarrassing them and that the whole restaurant was looking at them.

Deep cleansing breaths, grant. Deep cleansing breaths.

I can't tell you how hard I worried when I took my friend's very blond little girl shopping with me. I kept waiting for someone to yell "kidnapper" or worse. With all of the interracial families (through marriage and adoption), you'd think that people would get the picture. My son has an id card through "Identicard" and my husband carries it with us because it has my son's picture and his name listed as the father. Good grief.

At least the daughter was both able and willing to identify her father. I worry about the parents who have a tantruming child who doesn't look like them. Especially the dads. It can look to bystanders like kidnapping. Carrying family photos is a great idea! You wouldn't have a family photo of a child you were kidnapping...
