1244029_85152997My husband and I finished our homestudy about ten days ago. Currently, it is under review at our adoption agency. Knowing this and the dreaded next step of the I 800A, I never thought that the following would happen.

On Tuesday, January 18th at 9:30 am, I was sitting in my cubicle at work and thinking about work related things. My office phone rang and I noticed that the caller ID was an outside number. I will never forget the words as I picked up the phone. “Hey Julie! We have a possible match for you.” What!?! Many thoughts ran through my head in a jumbled mess at that moment. The first was “woo hoo!!” The next was “this is very soon”. The last was “what is her special need?”

I proceeded to have a ten minute conversation with my social workers. I don’t remember much from the conversation, except that I said “ok” about a thousand times during the call. I found out her name, age, birth date, and medical conditions. After I hung up the phone, I sat in my chair in disbelief. My co-worker heard the entire conversation and came running over to me. She hugged me and was in as my shock as I was.

I then called my husband on his cell phone. Men are much different than women when it comes to things of the heart. My husband listened to me and then said he had to get back to a meeting. It was kind of anti-climatic and, to be honest, a little disappointing. Next, I called my mom. She gave me the response that I was looking for. She cried and was in as much disbelief as I was. She wanted to know all the information and when we were headed to China to get her. The rest of the day was a blur as I shared my wonderful news with family and friends.

That evening at home, my husband and I opened the email containing her photos. We, of course, think she is beautiful. We submitted our letter of intent, also known as a LOI, to our case manager. She then submitted it online via the shared site to the Chinese officials. We will hear back in a few weeks if we are pre-approved to be her adoptive parents. Let the wait begin!
