From elsewhere on the Interwebs comes a reminder not to get too worried about certain things that really are a matter of perspective:
This morning my daughter who was born in China asked me, (blond, non-chinese mother), why daddy (also blond and non-chinese) don’t look like her. This is a question I’ve known would eventually be asked but before I could respond she finished her question by wanting to know why we don’t have long hair like she does.
From Mo's blog comes word of Hines Ward, a wide receiver who's doing something about something.
The injured wide receiver, who had knee surgery Monday, is playing host to eight biracial children visiting from South Korea.
"Christmas came early for me this weekend," a smiling Mr. Ward said as he greeted the children, ages 9 to 16, and the local families with whom they are staying during their time in southwestern Pennsylvania.

The inaugural trips are sponsored by the Hines... more
I just stumbled across the Addicted to Race podcast. I'm not exactly sure what to make of it yet. It's chronicling America's obsession with race, by people who are... obsessed with America's obsession with race?
They are race experts, which seems like a strange profession, but there you go. The podcast site features lots of links to other internet projects by their parent company, "New Demographics," who put out things like Racialicious (looking at race in pop culture) and ... more
Today's multicultural England: not more enlightened than America.
I'm just waiting for this kind of thing to happen to me & my kids. I regard it as a kind of inevitability.
Police have apologised to a white dad who was quizzed by officers after taking his two mixed-race daughters out for a pizza.
Paul Wrightson was questioned by the officers because they thought a white man with two Asian girls was suspicious.
I took the girls to Pizza Hut for a treat and I had just finished my pizza when I noticed... more

From the Toronto Star:
As for the charge that she is using and abusing her wealth and power to procure a baby, one might point out that: a) there has been no proof she greased official palms to get the kid; b) if she adopted the baby and left town without donating money to children's causes in her new son's home town, there'd be... more
I just heard about this Leonard Pitts column about race and self-image that seems like, well, something more to think about. He's a Miami Herald columnist, and a really good writer (although I don't read him as regularly as I once did), and he was just writing about an unsettling experiment done for a film.
The column in question was about black people and images of black people in the media, and how much public image -- popular culture -- affects the way people think about themselves.
He was inspired by a 17-year-old named Kiri Davis who made a short film called... more
I really should just get a "politics" category to stick these things in, but hey, I never really expected to be watching politicians who say in public that people who aren't white aren't really Americans.
Yet here we are.
So. Katherine "Katherine... more
No, he hasn't.
From Salon.com's interviews with former George Allen teammates:
Shelton said he also remembers a disturbing deer hunting trip with Allen on land that was owned by the family of Billy Lanahan, a wide receiver on the team. After they had killed a deer, Shelton said he remembers Allen asking Lanahan where the local black residents lived. Shelton said Allen then drove the three of them to that neighborhood with the severed head of the deer. "He proceeded to take the doe's head and stuff it into a mailbox," Shelton said.
Again. Why... more
Our (racist) presidential hopeful now has a photo gallery up from an "ethnic rally".
Ethnic. Rally.
Look! He can hang with the ethnics!
My, aren't some of them swarthy???
What's really interesting is that if you click that link to the photo gallery -- the second one, I mean, the one that goes straight to Allen's site -- the pictures automatically move through the different collections as a slide show. In the time it's taken me to type this, it... more
